What is osteopathy?

_

Osteopathy sees itself as a supplement and extension of conventional medicine. Man is regarded as a unit. All structures and systems of the organism are treated, dysfunctions of the musculoskeletal system as well as problems in the visceral or cranio-sacral area are eliminated by osteopathy.

The osteopaths work exclusively with their hands, which they use as tools to detect and treat disorders and limitations in the various areas and systems of the human body.

Osteopathy is a holistic form of therapy

which was founded by the American physician Dr. Andrew Taylor Still (1828-1917).

He regarded the body as a functional unit in which not only the skeletal bones but also all intervening structures such as muscles, tendons, ligaments and internal organs have a great influence on human well-being.

By taking a precise anamnesis, examining the bodily functions and feeling states of tension and blockages of different types of tissue by the hands, a finding is created.

The therapy is structured on the basis of the most important basics of osteopathy

  • the body’s ability to self-heal and self-regulate,
  • the functioning of the human body as a unit,
  • the interplay of function and structure as well as
  • the unconditional blood circulation and supply of tissues.

The holistic concept is characterized by access to all systems of the human body. At least three subdivisions are made:

  • The structural system includes the entire musculoskeletal system such as muscles, spine, joints, tendons and ligaments.
  • The visceral system covers the internal organs, their suspensions on the musculoskeletal system, their sheaths as well as their nerves and blood supply.
  • The cranio-sacral system stands for the movement of cerebrospinal fluid, the nervous system, its shells – the meninges – and their attachment to the skull (cranium) and the sacrum (sacrum).

The free movement of all structures around their physiological (correct, healthy) axes makes it possible to regain health.

Important

Osteopathy is a special supplement to conventional medicine, but does not replace it. Therefore, have a medical examination in advance. Furthermore, osteopathy is based on scientifically recognized medical and anatomical knowledge.

Hint

According to the MDT Act, a medical prescription is required for professional reasons for each treatment provided by us therapists.

Osteopathy and other holistic forms of treatment (APM, craniosacral therapy, TCM consultation, etc.) are purely private services and are not reimbursed by the insurance companies. Nevertheless, a doctor’s prescription is required!
